I know someone.

A friend of mine recently found out that a daughter in their family had been sexually abused by another family member.   My friend was frustrated that none of their supposedly “close” friends wanted to talk to them about it.  My friend desperately needed to talk - and no one wanted to listen.

Being a member of the QUANADA Board, (Quincy’s shelter and service for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault) I try to get people to listen.  I don’t care if it makes them feel uncomfortable.  In fact, I WANT them to feel VERY uncomfortable.  I want them to feel angry, step up and do something.  Even if it’s just listening to a friend share their devastating experience.  (That’s the LEAST you can do...call me and I’ll tell you how you can REALLY help.)

The “Chances Are” campaign was produced at no charge by media development, and was inspired by my friend.  The airtime was paid for through a grant. In May and June, you’ll see and hear this campaign a lot.

We can find abandoned puppies a home, help Alzheimers patients and plants trees down Maine Street. Now it’s time to look at the shameful and very real issue of family violence.  Chances are you know someone, or know someone who does.
