As a video editor, it’s crucial to respect the insight and vision of the producers and designers of the creative team. They not only have the daunting task of getting the message right, they must do so by giving each and every client an identity, feel and look.
If as an editor I ignore their talents and do my own thing, every commercial will begin to look alike. This would do a huge disservice to the client (even if the ads look good).
Recently someone told me that they were watching TV while on a treadmill at the gym. During one commercial break they saw ads for: Quincy Park District, Blumin’ Express, Hannibal Regional Hospital, and Peters Heating and Air. Knowing that we did the production on all these ads, this person commented that each commercial looked so different from one another.
You know…compliments are even more wonderful when the person didn’t know they were giving one!
