Q: Why does the final edit seldom never resemble the storyboards presented in the pitch?
Seriously, they never do. In fact, we know this going into the creative meetings.
A: Serendipity.
For Media Development, serendipity occurs when we have a strategic approach towards creative...and along the way we find something far better.
I have a friend who calls this the "accidental creative." No matter what you call it, I want to point out that serendipity can't occur without the original (ditched) idea.
It's easy not to respect the early ideas...but you should. We should.
We do!
The hard part is saying (to the client) I'm glad you believe in us and this concept, but there's a really good chance it won't look anything like this.
(A shame considering Tim is an amazing storyboard artist)
